After a week of intensive rehearsals at the Disentis Monastery, the Winterthur Symphony Orchestra presents the results of its musical summer project at the Fontauna Center.

"When a man goes on a journey, he has a story to tell," says the proverb. With regard to this year's summer program, one could add: "When someone goes on a journey, there is something to hear!" And how!

The countless impressions from the New World that Dvořák processed in his 9th Symphony: The result is a work that can hardly be surpassed in its wealth of ideas and tonal colors, which we are very happy to bring to you in our summer concerts.

The first part of the program reflects the experience of a life's journey. You will hear two stages of a musical journey through life. The first is Opus 1 by Richard Strauss, who was just 12 years old: the Festival March.

This is followed by the 2nd Horn Concerto, a late work by the almost 80-year-old master. The Winterthur Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Georg Sonnleitner will accompany the soloist Peter Dorfmayr (principal horn of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra), who will play this demanding concerto on the traditional Viennese F horn.

After the interval, the strings set course for the New World with initially soft, wistful sounds. And with the unmistakable main theme played by the French horns, the journey picks up speed inexorably.

Enjoy listening to Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, op. 95!
