The world is ending: Germany is swallowed by a volcano, California is sinking into the sea and the Internet is dead. In this chaos, accountant Charles "Chuck" Krantz (Tom Hiddleston), of all people, is a constant for the people. He adorns huge billboards and all the TV screens, which only broadcast Chuck's face and a fat thank you for his services. But who is this guy? A mystery that goes back a long way ... until his childhood with his grandmother, who passed on her infinite love for dancing to him, and his grandfather, who initiated him into the secrets of accounting and wanted to protect him from the locked attic room at all costs.
