Vernissage "My World in Grayscale" - Photographs by Urs Buchli

Urs Buchli: "My photographs show what I see in the world. Unspectacular, everyday, beautiful or ugly things, landscapes or people. I like even shapes, depth, breadth, melancholic and cheerful. 

I started analogue photography about three years ago. The driving force was the saturation of countless, great pictures and short films from all the smartphones of this world. The incredible amount of image material is consumed briefly and then remains somewhere on a hard drive. So I decided to take a different path and taught myself how to develop film and make prints on photographic paper.

With cameras from the 40s, 70s and 80s and magnifiers from times gone by, I now produce photographs in black and white. I am fascinated by the uniqueness of each image that is "burned" onto the film at the moment when the aperture opens. What the result will look like will only become apparent in the darkroom during the development of the films and on the paper print. Capturing my view of the world in shades of gray fills me with joy, challenges me and lets me discover new things again and again."
