Hedges and forest edges are valuable elements in the cultural landscape. In many areas, they have been formed over long periods of time and have enriched the cultivated land. For centuries, hedges supplied the population with wood, leaves, herbs and berries and served as windbreaks, erosion protection or border lines. They serve as a habitat for countless animals and plants.
