Julian (Bryce Gheisar) is an outsider who fights for recognition in his school. When he is expelled from school after an incident with his classmate, his grandmother (Helen Mirren) takes the incident as an opportunity to tell him her own story of courage. During her youth in Nazi-occupied France, a boy saves her from mortal danger and hides her in the barn of his farm. There, the two create their own breathtaking, magical world - and find their first love. Meanwhile, the boy's mother (Gillian Anderson) risks everything to ensure that her hiding place is not discovered.
