Event Engadin St. Moritz
Wolf in sheep's clothing - Bunker Albula
Description
on Sunday
In Graubünden, 300 fortified weapon positions were built on passes and in gorges during the 2nd World War.
The first fortress built was the Albula bunker. In just 5 months of construction, the 11m high and around 4000 tons heavy concrete block was rammed into the permafrost soil. For 60 years, the well-camouflaged fortress was top secret. Now it is renovated, re-equipped, armed and accessible to visitors.
Take good footwear and warm clothes with you. In the bunker it has ladders, no stairs.
The bunker is located on the west side of the Albula Pass, 1.5 km before the top of the pass, right next to the road.
