Description
The long version of the Alpöhi trail run on the Pizol is not a tour for beginners, contrary to what the name might suggest. Due to the numerous meters of altitude covered along the way, it places high demands on fitness levels. The start is at over 2,200 m above sea level, and this is where the circular trail ultimately leads back to. On the way, you first come across Lake Wangs before leaving the usually more frequented area of the popular Pizol hiking region. Great views of the neighboring Tamina Valley await along the way, before you return to the starting point via Pardiel and Zanuzegg on an energy-sapping ascent. The reward is a return trip on the chairlift and gondola back to the valley. This route can also be planned from Wangs. Take the gondola lift and chairlift to the Pizolhütte and from there towards Wangsersee. Or on the original route in the opposite direction.
Hidden Gem
Trail running workshops are held on various dates on the Pizol. Accompanied by certified running guides and professional athletes.
Safety Note
The technical difficulty of the trails is medium, so attentive running is required in places.
Equipment
Normal trail running equipment (trail shoes recommended everywhere). Take enough food and drink with you (self-catering principle). Maps and cell phone with good reception.
Directions
From Bad Ragaz, we take the gondola lift to Pardiel and then the chairlift to Laufböden. Here we walk along the high-level trail in the direction of the Pizolhütte as far as the Wangsersee. After the Wangsersee, we turn left towards Alp Lasa. We follow this trail to Alp Lasa and then follow the signs to Bettlerweg. First on a forest road and then on a great trail, we head towards Laufböden. Now it's time to recharge our energy reserves. These are also urgently needed for the final and sustained ascent via Zanuzegg to Laufböden. The ascent takes place on an easy forest path and will challenge even experienced runners in terms of energy reserves. Once in Laufböden, we take the chairlift to Pardiel and the gondola lift to Bad Ragaz.
