Description

The starting point of the circular hike is the Hotel Restaurant Seehof in Walenstadt. There we receive a rucksack with three selected wines from the region. The trail leads through the picturesque vineyards along Lake Walen. Numerous seating options along the way invite you to linger and taste the wines. The audio guide provides exciting insights into viticulture, the region and the work of the winegrowers. This hike combines enjoyment, nature and wine knowledge in a special way.

Hidden Gem

The circular trail is also part of the Walenstadt forest and nature trail. QR codes along the trail provide interesting information about the local flora and fauna and the region's high level of biodiversity.

Equipment

Light daypack (approx. 15 liters) with rain cover, comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water if necessary

Directions

The hike starts at the Hotel Restaurant Seehof in Walenstadt. There we receive the rucksack with the three wines. From here, we follow Seemühlestrasse for around 350 meters along Lake Walen to the first junction, where we turn left. Beautiful spots along the lakeshore invite you to enjoy the first wine. The path continues past the Grotto Kaliforni and shortly afterwards turns right into the forest. We continue to follow the signs for the Walenstadt forest and nature trail. After another short section, we turn right again. The path now becomes narrower and climbs through the forest. The forest soon opens up to reveal a view of Lake Walen. A perfect place for another tasting break with a view. The way back is via the Unterwaldweg, which takes us back to the starting point at the Seehof, where we hand in our rucksacks.

Public Transport

We recommend traveling by public transport: Take the train to Walenstadt. Take the B442 bus in the direction of Flums, Bahnhof to the bus stop Walenstadt, Hafen. Then walk approx. 90 meters to the Hotel Restaurant Seehof.

Travel Information

Coming from Zurich, take the Walenstadt highway exit, from Sargans take the Flums exit. Then follow the main road to Walenstadt and continue to the railroad station. At the station, turn right into Bahnhofstrasse and follow it to the traffic circle. Take the second exit and follow Seestrasse for about one kilometer along Lake Walen. The Hotel Restaurant Seehof is located on the right-hand side, directly on the lakeshore.
