E-bike enjoyment route Sarganserland

We start the round trip in the well-known spa town of Bad Ragaz and pass the villages of Vilters, Wangs, Mels, Plons, Heiligkreuz and Sargans on the way before we drive along the Rhine back to the starting point. On the leisurely tour there are hardly any altitude meters to overcome. Only on the ascent to Sargans Castle we conquer 100 meters in altitude. On the way to Sargans, Mels is recommended for a stopover with its newly designed village square, the Rathauskeller and the characteristic Nidberg hill with Wingert. After continuing through the Mels settlements of Plons and through the vineyards of Heiligkreuz, we reach the old town of Sargans. Sargans Castle, which is visible from afar, towers proudly above the historic town. From the Städtli, a staircase leads on foot directly up to Sargans Castle. With the e-bike we can also approach the castle from behind via a wide road.

Once at the top, we are rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view. The castle stands at the foot of the mountain Gonzen, on the lower slopes of which there are numerous hectares of vines. This is also the case with those of the Gonzen winery, whose noble trophes mature in barrique barrels next door in the Gonzen mine. Not only the wine cellar is located in the mountain, but also the restaurant Gonzenbergwerk welcomes its guests underground. 

Bad Ragaz we first drive on the Rhine dam and then upstream to the Fläscherbrücke, where we turn off and are soon back at our starting point.
