Description

From Bad Ragaz, we ride our e-bikes through Vilters and Wangs, past the Saarfall waterfall, into the Weisstannental valley. Here, we park our e-bikes along the Gufelbach stream—without blocking the path for others. We continue on foot toward Sässli, where the trail climbs steeply through woods and meadows. At the hay shed, the view opens up to the Batöni Waterfall Arena: three waterfalls plunge over a rock face into the depths below. We return to Weisstannen via the same path before our e-bikes take us back to Bad Ragaz via Mels, Sargans, and the Rhine embankment. The route passes through the Graue Hörner hunting reserve, where we respect wildlife quiet zones and closures, refrain from wild camping, and behave considerately toward other visitors and road users. With good physical fitness and e-bike experience, we’ll master this challenging tour, which combines a descent through the valley with a mountain adventure.

Hidden Gem

Would you like to learn more about the history of Weisstannen? Then stop by the Alte Post, which is now a museum.

Safety Note

Drive with caution and be respectful of other recreation seekers and road users.

Equipment

Standard biking gear, hiking boots. Functional clothing is recommended, as a long climb is followed by an equally long descent.
Be sure to bring a lock to secure your e-bike while you’re hiking.

Directions

E-bike tour to Weisstannen and back (42 km, 3 hrs 45 min): From Bad Ragaz, the route passes by the first waterfall, the Saarfall. In Wangs, the climb begins via Fontanix and leads into the Weisstannental valley. Along the Seez, the next stop is the village of Weisstannen. The hike begins there. After the hike, the return route leads through Mels, Sargans, and along the Rhine embankment back to Bad Ragaz.

Hike to the Batöni Waterfall Arena and back (7.5 km, 3h): In Weisstannen, on the village square along the Gufelbach stream, there is plenty of space to park your e-bikes. The hike to Batöni begins here. The trail starts with a steep climb toward Sässli. It then winds narrowly through forests and meadows. At the hay barn, the view opens up to the Batöni Waterfalls. A massive rock face marks the end of the valley. Above it, three graceful waterfalls plunge into the depths. What a special place! The return trip follows the same path as the ascent. With the spectacular Batöni Waterfalls still fresh in your mind, you’ll reach Weisstannen.
