Description

From the Spitzmeilenhütte SAC at over 2000 m above sea level, it goes down to the small Walser village of Weisstannen at around 1000 m above sea level. On the first part of the stage, the holey, ochre-coloured roughwackes and cart fields form ideal loopholes and corridors for marmots. Past the Chammseeli it goes to the Madfurggel, from where the Glarus thrust is clearly visible. The summits above the "magic line" consist of Verrucano rocks that are over 250–300 million years old – including the flysch rocks or limestones that are 200 million years younger. The descent via Madfurggl is only recommended for sure-footed and vertigo-free mountaineers. People who are not free of vertigo descend into the Weisstannental valley at the Fansfurggla. In Weisstannen, a visit to the museum «Post ab!» is worthwhile.
