Description

From the Spitzmeilenhütte SAC at over 2000 m above sea level.M. it goes down to the small Walser village Weisstannen at about 1000 m above sea level.M. On the first part of the stage, the holey, ochre-coloured rauwacken and cart fields form ideal loopholes and corridors for marmots. Past the Chammseeli we go to the Madfurggel, from where the Glarus main overthrust is clearly recognizable. The summit sections above the "magic line" consist of Verrucano rocks over 250–300 million years old – including the flysch rocks or limestones, which are 200 million years younger. The descent via Madfurggl is only recommended for sure-footed and vertigo-free mountaineers. Non-vertigo-free people descend into the Weisstannental at the Fansfurggla. In Weisstannen, a visit to the museum «Post ab!» is worthwhile.
