Description
The first approximately 5 km lead through the tank firing range Hinterrhein of the Swiss Army. Be sure to check the shooting times the day before the hike.
On the firing range, definitely take the path along the left side of the Hinterrhein. Further upstream there is no bridge over the stream to the left river bank, where the mountain path to the Zapporthütte starts.
At the end of the firing range, the actual mountain hike begins. The ascent via Zapportstafel to the SAC hut is a challenging mountain hiking trail T3. There is often still a lot of snow on the access paths well into the summer.
Up to Zapportstafel, the hiking path leads along the young Hinterrhein. After a thunderstorm, the water can sometimes reach the hiking path. Rocky or exposed sections are well secured with chains. Over Zapportstafel, the path continues through the 'Höll', a small gorge with scoured pools. Soon the Zapporthütte comes into view and the destination is reached.
The Zapporthütte is staffed during the summer months.
