Details
Description
The Pizol area is known for its breathtaking panoramic views over the St. Gallen Rhine Valley to Lake Constance. Nowhere else can you enjoy the view so undisturbed as from the highest peaks of the hiking area. The hike to Gamidauerspitz is part of the summit quartet at Pizol. The stages Garmil, Gamidauerspitz, Hochwart, and Pizol can all be climbed independently of each other, but also combined as desired.
From Gamidauerspitz, we have the Sarganserland and the Rhine Valley at our feet. In the foreground stands the Garmil at just over 2,000 m above sea level; to the left, the view extends towards Churfirsten and Lake Walen; to the right, the view falls on the Bündner mountains. With some luck, chamois or eagles can be spotted along the way.
Hidden Gem
The Berghotel Furt is the ideal overnight option and starting point for this route, especially for combinations of the summit quartet.
Safety Note
Be sure to observe the operating hours of the Pizol cable cars.
Equipment
Day hiking backpack (about 20 liters) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable footwear, weather-appropriate and durable clothing worn in layers, possibly telescopic poles, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first-aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone, possibly headlamp, map material
Directions
From the Gaffia mountain station, we follow the signpost towards Baschalvasee. After a few meters, the first opportunity for a stopover arises at the old Gaffia alp. The path now leads up several switchbacks above the Chuetschingel until after about 1 hour and 15 minutes we reach Baschalvasee. The day's goal, Gamidauerspitz, is already within sight. From Baschalvasee, we follow the signpost towards Schwarzsee. After gaining a few more meters in elevation, we reach the Baseggla point at 2280 m above sea level. From this point, we follow the ridge to the right and reach the highest point of today's route, the Gamidauerspitz, after about 200 meters.
For the return journey, we have various combination options:
- The same way back
- Combinations with the summit quartet or the 5-lake hike
