Details
Description
Your starting point is Vrin - from here the bus takes you alpine to the remote Parvalsauns, where the actual hike begins.
At first it goes leisurely uphill, then the path leads even steeper to the Diesrut Pass. If you stand up here for the first time, you won't forget the beautiful view over the Greina plain in a hurry.
The descent now leads down to the Greina plateau, which is crossed over a distance of about 8 kilometers. At the beginning, meandering streams characterize the landscape. The approximately three-kilometre-long section between the Crap Crusch and the Passo della Greina is particularly impressive - striking due to its unique rock formations, which give the mountains here their special character
After the Passo della Greina, it is not far to the Capanna Scaletta, which is spectacularly located on a ledge and opens up the view of Ticino to Olivone - an ideal place for a rest.
This is followed by a steep descent of around 200 metres in altitude to Pian Geirett, where the alpine bus is already waiting at the turning point and takes you back to civilisation - first to Olivone. Afterwards, a varied return journey by public transport begins:
- First with the Autolinee Bleniesi to the Lukmanier Pass,
- then by post bus to Disentis,
- and finally with the Rhaetian Railway back to Ilanz.
Note on planning: The tour is easily doable with the early course of the bus alpin 07.36 a.m. from Vrin, vitg - but this only runs from the beginning of July to the beginning of August. Outside this period, the first bus does not depart until 08:55 a.m. from Vrin, vitg, which means that the hike is still feasible, but requires physical fitness.
Hidden Gem
One attraction is the "Arco della Greina". If you want to see this rock archway, turn right shortly after the Passo della Greina, at P.2378, and take the hiking trail over the ground. This white-blue-white marked alpine hiking trail is a bit more demanding and only recommended in good conditions. Additional time required approx. 1/2 hour.
Safety Note
In uncertain weather conditions, the tour should not be started. Weather changes in the mountains are frequent. If a rain front or similar comes up during the hike, you should turn back in time.
Equipment
Good hiking boots with good tread, weather-appropriate clothing (rain jacket), first aid kit, drink, food, ev. Hiking poles.
