Description

Heidi's Long Trail is a best-of of the Bad Ragaz side of the Pizol, tailored for trail runners. The trail starts on the Heidi path (a popular hiking trail for families) through a varied landscape, past a mountain hut on Schwarzbüel that could easily have come straight out of a Heidi film. The Vilterser Seeli, which is also on the route, is also a postcard subject, as is the higher-lying Wangsersee.

Accompanied by a breathtaking panorama, the route continues on a flat plateau at the highest point before heading back down towards the valley at Laufböden. At the Sunntigweid reservoir, beach chairs invite you to take a short break, after which you return to the starting point on Pardiel via Obersäss, from where you can take the gondola lift back down to the valley.

Hidden Gem

Trail running workshops are held on various dates on the Pizol. Accompanied by certified running guides and professional athletes.

Safety Note

The highest point of the tour is at over 2,200 m above sea level, so you have to be prepared for rapid changes in temperature and weather.

Equipment

Normal trail running equipment (trail shoes recommended everywhere). Take enough food and drink with you (self-catering principle). Maps and cell phone with good reception.

Directions

We take the cable car from Bad Ragaz to the starting point in Pardiel. Here we walk via Obersäss and the Schwarzbüel viewpoint to the Schwarzbüelhütte. From here we turn left to the Vilterser Obersäss. We reach this intermediate destination via a varied trail through forest, moorland and rough vegetation. We walk uphill to the Vilterser Seeli and at the end of the lake towards the Pizolhütte. We follow this mountain trail to Lake Wangs. The lake invites you to cool off before continuing along the high-level trail to Laufbodenstübli. Here we reach the highest point of our tour at 2,223 m above sea level and continue steadily downhill along a long forest path to above Pardiel. As soon as we see the first information boards in the shape of edelweiss, we follow them uphill until we reach the Suntigweidsee lake. Here we can relax in the beach chairs and enjoy the fantastic panorama. If you don't want to walk the additional loop via Suntigweidsee, you can go directly to Pardiel. Finally, there is a short descent via Obersäss back to Pardiel. The cable car takes you back to Bad Ragaz.
