Description

As soon as the Engadin lakes freeze over in January, this fantastic trail from Maloja to Sils Maria over Lake Sils is groomed. It is very wide; about 20 meters are prepared for skating and 4 tracks are maintained for classic skiing. Therefore, the trail is suitable for everyone: experts find the entry to the many kilometers of trails stretching through the high valley; the only limit is your own fitness! But beginners also like to take their first steps here – the lake landscape is completely flat and provides a good introduction. If the route in one direction is too short, you can make a nice loop at Sils and take the return via the Chasté peninsula back to Maloja.

Hidden Gem

Between Maloja and Sils you can stop at the Restaurant Lagrev in Isola.

Depending on the wind direction, it is advisable to start the route in Sils.

Safety Note

It can get very cold on the lake plain with strong winds.

Equipment

Equipment can be rented at the local sports shop “Giacometti Sport, Maloja”.

Directions

The trail begins at the lakeshore in Maloja (parking is available in the village at Giacometti Sport). From here, the track runs straight across the lake to Isola. It then makes a small curve around the peninsula and continues along the shore to Sils.
