Details

Description

Very close to Pass da Roda is the Bergalga Pass, which offers an easy connection north to the fertile alpine meadows of Val Bargalga, which belong to the large basin of the Avers high valley. The route can be started from Soglio or from Casaccia through the less steep Val Maroz. The two paths meet shortly before Pass da Roda.

Hidden Gem

In the Averstal, you can avoid the long return journey by car over the Splügen Pass by staying overnight in Juppa or Juf to return the next day over the Forcellina saddle to Bergell.

Equipment

Trekking shoes, cash, water, snacks

Directions

You reach Pass da Roda from Soglio to Pass da la Duana and continue simply northward from the pass, where shortly before the wide saddle of Pass da Roda you meet the path coming from Val Maroz. Or you start in Casaccia as described in the route over Pass da la Duana up to the northern shore of Läg da la Caldera. At this point, you go straight ahead on the path that leads to the wide saddle of Pass da Roda (2777 m), where many mountain lakes lie. At the largest lake, which drains into the Madristal, you turn right (north) and climb up to the nearby Passo Bergalga, which is also situated by a lake (2790 m). Beyond the pass height, the green alpine meadows of the Bergalga valley appear. After a short descent between large boulders, you get back on the path running through the middle of the valley. Then you gradually turn right until you come down to the huts behind Bergalga and thus to a country road that leads to Juppa (overnight possibility, Postbus).
