Details

Description

It is not quite easy to find the entry and the correct route to the summit.  Once at the top, you enjoy an excellent view from Piz Casnil of all the surrounding mountains.

From the Albigna hut, follow the route to Pass da Casnil Sud until shortly before the pass height. Here you leave the path and traverse towards the northern pass crossing. Alternatively, Pass da Casnil Nord can also be reached with some scrambling directly via the connecting ridge (following the cairns).

From Pass da Casnil Nord, either continue directly to the south ridge and climb here on slabby rock (II-III) to the Casnil summit.

Or keep west and ascend the summit via the southwestern spur. The entry here is not quite easy to find: from Pass da Casnil Nord, keep slightly left and go towards the chute near the large slabs - then you soon encounter numerous cairns that mark the way up (I-II).  The descent follows the same route.

Hidden Gem

For those who are not familiar with the area, it is advised to be accompanied by a mountain guide.

Overnight stay in the hut

Safety Note

The ascent of Casnil is only recommended for experienced mountaineers with local knowledge. It is mostly off-trail.

Equipment

Mountaineering boots, hiking poles, possibly a rope
