Details

Description

The route starts at the train station and first follows the Hinterrhein downstream. After only about 12 kilometres, the Polenweg opens up impressive views of the Hinterrhein and the surrounding valley.

In the Reichenau area, you reach the confluence of the Anterior and Posterior Rhine, where from this point the Rhine continues to flow as a unified river towards the North Sea. The route then leads along the Via Camagna near Bonaduz, a scenic section with views of the Rhine Gorge.

Other highlights are natural colour accents such as poppy fields near Bonaduz, the Versam-Safien train station as a resting and orientation place as well as quiet forest and floodplain sections between Rhäzüns and Rothenbrunnen before the route finally leads back to the destination station.

Equipment

  • Gravel bike or sporty trekking bike
  • Helmet recommended
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Enough drinking water
  • Small snacks for the road
  • Optional: gloves and sun or rain protection

Directions

The tour has a clearly gravel-typical path structure. Most of the route runs on paths and low-traffic side roads, supplemented by short sections on regular roads and cycle paths. Single trail passages are very short and technically easy.

The subsoil is dominated by asphalt sections, supplemented by loose subsoil and firm gravel, especially in the natural river and forest sections. Short passages with cobblestones and road surfaces provide additional variety without significantly impairing the flow of the ride.
