Directions

Once in Turrahus, we recommend that you visit the exhibition stable of the Safier Ställe association right at the Postbus stop before the start of your hike. There you will receive interesting information about the importance of the stables and the Walser scattered settlements, which characterize the landscape in the region. You start your hike following the valley road back to Thalkirch. After a few minutes you leave the road to the right branch over a bridge and follow the river to Thalkirch. Hiking you will recognize the typical Safi settlement landscape with the scattered houses on the left slope of the valley (sometimes with free-standing ovens), stables, hay barns and alpine huts ("Stupli"). In Thalkirch it is worth visiting the small church. From the church you walk back a short distance along the valley road and then follow the hiking trail, which takes its course immediately to the right after a residential building. Over a meadow you walk towards Bawald and a little later reach the magical forest, which would have many legends to tell. The path continues through forest and over alpine pastures up to the Camaner huts. The view from up here is wonderful. They overlook almost the entire Tal.In Camanaboda you are in the highest year-round inhabited settlement of the valley. Here is also the Safier local history museum. Despite its small size, the "aalt Huus", as it is also called, has all the rooms used for the time and you can experience so impressively how people used to live and work. It is open every second Sunday or by appointment. From Camanaboda, the path follows a section of the road before descending steeply at the "Hof" to Safien Square.
