Exploring the Schamserberg and its churches on varied roads by bike.
Details
Description
The tour leads through carefully cultivated landscapes from Zillis up to the mountain village of Lohn, and on via Wergenstein, Casti and Clugin to Andeer and finally back to the starting point of Zillis.
The small, historic churches of the various villages are clearly visible from afar. The exposed locations on hills and ridges each offer a magnificent view down into the Val Schons. The church in Lohn on the upper Schamserberg with its two church towers from different eras and the idyllically situated listed church in Clugin are particularly worthy of mention. Zillis is home to the historically significant St. Martin's Church from the 12th century with its unique church ceiling.
Alternative: At the northern end of the village of Andeer, you can make a short detour to Pignia to see the villages on the Schamserberg again from the other side of the valley. From Pignia village, a road leads down to Pignia Bogn, where you can take a leisurely stroll to Zillis on the right-hand side of the Hinterrhein.
