Details
Description
In total, over twenty mineral springs rise in the municipality of Scuol. Their diversity is due to the geological uniqueness of the Lower Engadin Window. The high-quality water has significantly shaped the history of Scuol since its first mention around 1369 and remains of central importance today.
To taste the water from various mineral springs, you don’t have to go far. Mineral water flows continuously at five Scuol village fountains. It is recommended to bring a cup or a glass bottle.
Hidden Gem
Try the mineral-rich water directly at the fountains. The following mineral springs supply the water to the fountains:
- Chalzina spring to the Bügl Grond village fountain
- Sotsass spring to the Plaz village fountain
- Sotsass spring to the Bagnera village fountain
- Clozza spring to the Squirrel fountain
- Vi spring to the Plazzetta village fountain
Equipment
Sturdy footwear, a bottle or cup, and sun/rain protection are recommended.
Directions
The Scuol fountain route begins at the entrance of Bogn Engiadina and leads through its salt tower, bringing you to a water playground in a small park. After crossing the park, the old village part Scuol Sot is reached, where well-preserved Engadin houses can be admired. Finally, the first village fountain, and at the same time the largest, Bügl Grond, is reached. The route continues to the Plaz village fountain. From there, it goes uphill past the municipal building to the Bagnera village fountain. Then the Clozza stream is crossed shortly one after another, where you immediately come to the fourth village fountain, the so-called Squirrel fountain. Passing the retirement home, you cross a bridge over the cantonal road and arrive at the upper, new part of the village. Continuing gently uphill, the fountain route leads to the Vi spring, the only spring on the route. After a short rest at the highest point, the route continues to the old village part Scuol Sura, where the Plazzetta village fountain is located. From there, you descend to the Stradun and soon reach the entrance of Bogn Engiadina again.
