Description
Easy, enjoyable, and a bit exclusive. That's how you could briefly describe the snowshoe tour.
The start is at Waltensburg Demvitg. This is at the lower end of the elongated mountain village. At the beginning, still wearing snowshoes, you walk through a residential area and later over forest and woodland paths towards the castle complex. The highlight is naturally the Jörgenburg (Munt Sogn Gieri). Who has ever walked through a snow-covered castle garden? That's not an everyday experience. Additionally, the views of the surrounding mountain world are really beautiful.
The return route goes over the meadow of Casti and Cantuns with a short ascent back to the starting point.

A visit to the church in Waltensburg. The Reformed church is a gem among churches. Of particular art-historical value are the wall paintings of an unknown master from around 1330.
Safety Note
This snowshoe route has no dangerous sections with avalanche risk. However, be sure to check the weather report and start only in good conditions.

Equipment
Well-functioning snowshoes, poles with winter baskets, good footwear, winter-appropriate clothing. The wind can significantly lower the perceived temperature in winter: don't forget winter gloves, hat, thermos bottle, etc.

Take the post bus from Ilanz directly to Waltensburg/Vuorz, Mt. S.Gieri
Travel Information
From Ilanz, drive on the main road towards Disentis. About 1 kilometer after Rueun, follow the turnoff to Waltensburg/Vuorz and continue to the village entrance.

Few parking spaces are available in the village of Waltensburg.
