Details
Description
On Gamidauerspitz and Garmil we have the Sarganserland and the St. Gallen Rhine Valley at our feet. To the left, the Churfirsten rise from the ground; to the right, the view extends to the Grisons mountains. With some luck, chamois or eagles can even be observed along the way. Furthermore, information boards on the UNESCO World Heritage Tektonikarena Sardona line the path.
Hidden Gem
The Berghotel Furt is the ideal accommodation and starting point for the route, especially for the combination of the two half-stages.
Equipment
Day hiking backpack (approx. 20 liters) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable footwear, weather-appropriate and durable clothing in multiple layers, if necessary telescopic poles, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone, map material
Directions
From the mountain station Gaffia, we follow the signpost towards Baschalvasee. After a few meters, the first dining option already appears at the old Alp Gaffia. The path now leads over several switchbacks above the Chuetschingel until after about 1 hour and 15 minutes we reach the Baschalvasee. The goal, Gamidauerspitz, is already in sight. From Baschalvasee, we follow the signpost towards Schwarzsee. After a few more altitude meters, we reach the point Baseggla at 2280 meters above sea level. From this point, we follow the ridge to the right and reach, after about 200 meters, the highest point of today's route, the Gamidauerspitz.
From Gamidauerspitz, we continue downhill. The Garmil already rises before us. At the signpost Basürla, we follow the path towards "Fürggli via Garmil." On reaching Garmil, however, we do not continue towards Fürggli but take the same way back to the Basürla junction. There we follow the signpost towards Gaffia Station, which we reach after just under an hour.
