Show all 9 images
The entire Greina high plateau in one day? Yes, it is possible!
With public transport and the complementary Bus alpin, the route can be completed in about six hours of hiking time. A perfect day route for 'fast hikers' who do not like overnight stays in huts.

Description
Your starting point is Vrin – from here the Bus alpin takes you to remote Parvalsauns, where the actual hike begins.
Initially, the ascent is leisurely, then the path partly becomes steeper up to Pass Diesrut. Those standing here for the first time will not soon forget the magnificent view over the Greina plateau.
The descent now leads down to the Greina high plateau, which is crossed over a distance of about 8 kilometers. At the beginning, meandering streams characterize the landscape. Especially impressive is the about three-kilometer-long section between Crap Crusch and Passo della Greina – marked by its unique rock formations that give this mountain world its special character.
After Passo della Greina, it is not far to Capanna Scaletta, which lies spectacularly on an edge and offers a view into Ticino towards Olivone – an ideal place for a rest.
Next follows a steep descent of about 200 vertical meters to Pian Geirett, where the Bus alpin is already waiting at the turning point and takes you back to civilization – initially to Olivone. Then begins a varied return trip with public transport:
- First with Autolinee Bleniesi to Lukmanierpass,
- then with the Postauto to Disentis,
- and finally with the Rhaetian Railway back to Ilanz.
Planning note: The route is feasible with the early Bus alpin at 07:36 from Vrin, vitg – however, this runs only from early July to early August. Outside this period, the first bus runs only at 08:55 from Vrin, vitg, making the hike still possible but requiring good physical condition.
At the Surrein, Val stop, there is also a restaurant. Please note the limited parking availability there.
Warning: Road closure in Val Sumvitg
Due to a landslide in the section near Acla Mulin, the road from Acla Mulin has been closed for all traffic. The Bus Alpin Val Sumvitg runs from/to the replacement stop (suspension bridge - Acla Mulin). The hiking time increases by about 40 minutes towards Greina. For pedestrians, access to the rear Val Sumvitg and also to the Greina high plateau is always guaranteed via the suspension bridge Acla Mulin.
The duration of the closure is currently unknown.
Hidden Gem
An attraction is the "Arco della Greina." Those who want to see this rock arch should turn right shortly after the Passo della Greina at P.2378 and take the hiking trail over the Boden. This alpine hiking trail marked white-blue-white is somewhat more demanding and recommended only under good conditions. Additional time required about 1/2 hour.
Safety Note
In uncertain weather conditions, the route should not be started. Weather changes in the mountains are frequent. If a rain front or similar develops during the hike, you should turn back in time.
Equipment
Good hiking shoes with a good profile, weather-appropriate clothing (rain jacket), first aid kit, drink, food, possibly hiking poles.
