Details
Description
When we get off the train at Oberalp Pass, the lighthouse immediately catches our eye, symbolizing the source of the Rhine. However, we hike in the opposite direction towards Pass Tiarms, where we reach the highest point of the route. It then gently descends, first into Val Val, then along a high trail and past charming alpine farms in Scharinas to Milez. The flag of the mountain inn Tegia las Palas is hoisted, a good sign! We stop here and take time to enjoy the wonderful view of the villages Rueras and Sedrun.
The route continues via Mulinatsch and above Rueras towards Sedrun. Those who want can take a detour down to the village.
Otherwise, we stay close to the railway line and cross the impressive viaduct at Bugnei. At Mompé Tujetsch, we already see Disentis, and in Segnas we admire the charming farmhouses built in the typical Walser framework style. In Acletta, we visit the church Maria Immaculata, known for the altarpiece by master Francesco Nuvolone, created in Milan in 1655.
On low-traffic roads and side paths, we end the hike. Passing the valley station of the cable cars and the sports center until we reach Disentis station.
Hidden Gem
Hike with light luggage, there are always places to stop along the way.
Safety Note
Fairtrail: Hikers share the path sectionwise with mountain bikers.
Equipment
Trekking poles are always recommended for valley hikes.
Directions
From the train stop at Oberalp Pass, we first orient ourselves by the military buildings. We follow the signposts for the Senda Sursilvana No. 85. This leads us to Pass Tiarms. Then follows a descent into Val Val. We reach a road that leads to Milez. We follow the signposts downhill. After a short stretch of hiking trail, we arrive at an asphalt road. We follow this until the first big right curve, where we turn left. A hiking trail now leads over the Milar stream, first down and then up again. This brings us to another road. We follow this until shortly before the train stop in Rueras. Now turn left. Before the next left bend, we turn right across a meadow. At the first houses, we follow the neighborhood street always eastwards until we reach Sedrun station. After the station, we follow a very short stretch of the railway line. Then we can go under the tracks and then turn right. From there, the path leads more or less all above the railway line to Segnas. In Segnas, we follow the signposts to Acletta. From the church in Acletta, it goes down on neighborhood paths to the cable car station, past the sports center until we reach Disentis station.
