Via Mundaun: Stage 3

The village center of Vella is characterized by its stone houses, the chapel Sogn Roc, and the castle de Mont. The final stage connects the village of Vella with Lumbrein. The direct path would of course be too easy: another ascent awaits, which is worth it.

Shortly after the natural bathing lake Davos Munts, it goes uphill. Altitude meters on snow feel different: more demanding but also meditative. Step by step, the highest point of the tour approaches: Curschellas at over 1700 meters altitude. Here winter shows itself again from its impressive side: quiet, white and wide, the view stretches towards the Pèz Terri, one of the mightiest peaks in the region.

The descent winds down in many hairpin bends into the valley. Lumbrein comes closer, first farms line the way. The houses stand increasingly close, village life becomes tangible. After three eventful days, the Via Mundaun ends in Lumbrein with its landmark, the medieval residential tower «Chisti da Lumerins». Also well known is the giant crystal from Pèz Regina. The 950-kilogram crystal group, one of the largest ever found in the Alps, can be viewed in the cultural house Casa d’Angel. From Lumbrein, a PostBus runs back to Vella every hour.

Tip: The tour can be extended from Lumbrein to Vrin. This section is not machine-groomed and is walked with snowshoes; after heavy snowfall, the trail may be missing. With longer dry periods, the path is often passable without snowshoes.

Luggage Transport Via Mundaun

Day 1: Arrival and first stage

Arrival the day before: Overnight stay at Hotel Central, Obersaxen.

Arrival on the tour day: Bus ride to Meierhof Post, deposit luggage at Hotel Central there. Then continue by bus to Obersaxen, Friggahüs.

Day 2: From Obersaxen to Vella

The luggage can be stored at Hotel Central and will be transported to one of the booked hotels in Vella (Lumnezia).

If luggage transport is desired, it must be registered directly with Hotel Central.

⚠️ Important: A room reservation at Hotel Central does not automatically include luggage transport. This must be booked separately on request at Hotel Central.

Costs: CHF 45.00 surcharge for luggage transport

Luggage transport is not possible on the following dates:

Day 3:  Final stage

The luggage can be stored at the hotel in Vella and will be picked up again after the tour.

Those who depart only the next day can leave the luggage at the hotel and enjoy an additional overnight stay.
