Description
Ice bathing, in particular, is associated with numerous positive effects on the body and mind. A brief immersion in an ice bath is said to strengthen the immune system, promote circulation, sharpen the mind and senses, and even improve mood. These effects on the body are relatively simple to explain: the cold creates a stimulus that can lead to increased production of endorphins, the so-called happiness hormones, adrenaline, and anti-inflammatory corticoids. This winter, there are two official ice baths in the Engadin that invite you to take an invigorating dip into the clear lake water. Until the end of the season, you can immerse yourself in the idyllic Lake Sils in Plaun da Lej every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There are coat racks and warm tea available on site. Lake St. Moritz (on the western shore, near the Ludains ice arena) is also an attractive winter swim. **Information on ice bathing** Please note that ice bathing also carries risks. People with high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart and vascular disease are advised not to participate. Tips for preparation and other considerations before your first ice swim can be found on the website of the Swiss Cold Training Association.
