Gebiet Pizol

Gebiet Pizol (oua_604435720_image)
The Pizol area offers the easternmost exposures of Glarus Verrucano and the Glarus Thrust. The Pizol Glacier is suffering from rising temperatures, but older glacier traces in the Wildsee area are well preserved.

Description

In the Pizol region are found the easternmost outcrops of the Glarus Verrucano and the Glarus Thrust Fault. The fault descends from over 2,700 meters above sea level in the Pizol Saddle area northward toward Wangs, where it disappears beneath the valley floor. The Pizol Glacier still exists, but it is severely affected by rising temperatures. However, older glacial features—such as glacial polish and striations, moraine ridges, and gravel plains—are beautifully preserved in the Wildsee area.
