"The fresh and captivating way in which Glauffig makes music and celebrates folk music has addictive potential!"

MUSIC | VARIOUS STYLES

The formation "Glauffig" has existed since 2008 and consists of Mathias Landtwing (clarinet), Fränggi Gehrig (accordion), Lukas V. Gernet (piano) and Pirmin Huber (bass). The repertoire ranges from traditional country music in the style of the legendary "Heirassa" band to modern, self-composed folk music. In 2014 we compiled and pressed our first CD «Jä sowieso, uf alli Fäll» with lost Ländler pearls reinterpreted by us. For all of us, the musical roots are rooted in folk music. Since 2010, however, we have completed various fields of study at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (folk music, jazz, classical music, composition) and have developed into virtuoso instrumentalists. During our time as a student, however, there was an artistic break for the formation "Glauffig".

.

After graduating from the music academies in Lucerne, Bern and spending time abroad, we felt it was logical to rework our acquired expertise compositionally and musically. Our bass player, a trained carpenter, came up with the idea of the name "journeyman's hike" as the title of the project. The term "journeyman's migration" basically refers to a modern form of continuing vocational training. Above all, the journeymen should get to know new working practices, foreign places, regions and countries, as well as gain life experience.

.

In 2018 and 2019, four compositions per musician were created from this idea. On our "Journeyman's Hike" tour, we presented sixteen new, self-composed, innovative pieces with lively, original elements from various musical genres. Aware of its own origins, traditional music is given a new guise in terms of interpretation and substance, but the cultural asset of folk music is given due care. Similar to artists for whom gravity does not seem to exist, we juggle with alpine folk music, with familiar patterns and common clichés. This sometimes sounds light-footed and playful, sometimes down-to-earth and almost coarse, but always paired with a high degree of musicality and joy of playing. The "Journeymen's Hike" programme opens up new dimensions for lovers of traditional folk culture as well as those interested in contemporary sounds.
