Cinema Tribuna: "Das Schweizerdeutsch der Rätoroman:innen" in Ilanz

Just a few decades ago, people were ashamed of their Romansh, but today they have learned to be proud of it. For a long time, people in Chur were also laughed at for the typical Oberland Swiss German - while in Zurich, for example, it was considered charming. Anyone who grew up with Romansh and then learned Swiss German has therefore experienced an eventful language biography. Why? What is so special about the Swiss German of Ratoromania? Host Nadia Zollinger and language expert Markus Gasser talk about this in the SRF podcast "Dini Mundart" with the well-known politician Martin Candinas, who has had relevant experiences himself in his life.

Although the Graubünden dialect is enormously popular in German-speaking Switzerland, the Swiss German of the Romansh-speaking population of Graubünden is still practically unexplored. One of the reasons for this is that this dialect is very young, actually still in the making, says linguist Anja Hasse from Graubünden. She heads the "Birth of new dialects?" project at the University of Zurich, which aims to close this research gap. In conversation with moderator André Perler, Professor Anja Hasse will present her research project in the second part of the evening and answer questions from the audience.
