Jozef De Beenhouwer – piano

The well-known Belgian-Flemish pianist impresses us every year with his subtle playing. This time we hear Franz Schubert's four Impromptus op. 142 and then pieces by Brahms, Chopin and Schumann.

The concert tickets can be purchased directly at the box office. This is open 45 minutes before the start of the concert. There is no advance ticket sale
After completing a full degree in pharmacy (Leuven, 1970), Jozef De Beenhouwer devoted himself exclusively to music. As a student of Lode Backx at the Chapelle Reine Elisabeth (Brussels) and at the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Antwerp, he passed the final examination piano summa laude in 1975. In the nineties he perfected himself in interpretation in Florence with David Kimball.

De Beenhouwer has performed in recitals and as a soloist with orchestras in most European countries, the USA and South Korea. He often performs in recitals with well-known singers such as Ria Bollen, Robert Holl, Nina Stemme, and Werner van Mechelen. From 1986 to 1996 Jozef De Beenhouwer was the official accompanist at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition for Violin and Voice in Brussels. He is also a regular guest at the Brahms Festival in Mürzzuschlag. Together with the Wiener Symphoniker he played the world premiere of Robert Schumann's Concerto Movement in D minor (

1839) in 1986, followed by the world premiere of Clara Schumann's Concerto Set in F minor (1847) in 1992. Both works, left only as fragments, were supplemented by the pianist and published by Breitkopf & Härtel/Wiesbaden. Jozef De Beenhouwer has released numerous records and CDs, including works by Schumann, Brahms and Belgian composers on the Phaedra label. He twice received the Prix Caecilia for his recordings of Peter Benoits and Joseph Ryelandt's piano works. In 1991 he made the first complete recording of Clara Schumann's piano compositions on 3 CDs. For his special services to the work of Robert and Clara Schumann, he was honoured in 1993 with the Robert Schumann Prize of the City of Zwickau.
Until 2020 he taught as a professor at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp.
Jozef De Beenhouwer is also often in demand as a juror at international piano competitions.

The KulturBus takes you free of charge to Scuol, Ftan, Ardez and Tarasp after the concert. Register at the box office.
