Field Notes

Description
on Wednesday
on Thursday, Friday
on Saturday
With the Field Notes series, the artist began an experiment. After large-format acrylic works, he turned to oil painting in order to work more slowly and with more concentration, to refine his brushstrokes and to deal more consciously with materials. Instead of painting impulsively, he set up a clear system: 24 pictures, only two colors each, vertical shapes and paint diluted exclusively with solvents. Each canvas has been carefully prepared and sanded with several layers of gesso to create a smooth surface.
The works were created in two steps: first layers of oil, then spray paint through a stencil. This template set limits, but small coincidences broke through it: edges ran away, shapes eluded control. Initially, the forms were pure tools for the artist. But the reactions of viewers once again showed him how much perception charges a work. Over time, the forms also gained significance for himself: they reflected the situations of his life, encounters and inner processes.
Field Notes is an observation and record, like a visual diary. The series deals with the boundaries between discipline and disorder, openness and self-loss. It does not mark a conclusion, but a beginning – a protocol of learning to find balance in chaos.
