The number of dictatorships is increasing worldwide. With disinformation and a lot of money, tyrants want to destabilize democracies and influence elections. Russian oppressor Vladimir Putin launched a war of aggression against Ukraine.

But democracies are also under pressure from within: by authoritarian political forces that rely on the all-powerful leader instead of the separation of powers.

Internationally and nationally, democracy is being challenged. What is the correct response of the West? What needs to be done to make the democratic form of government a model in the world again? How can the West courageously defend its values?

Journalist Roger de Weck will moderate a panel discussion with Christoph Heusgen, Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, former German ambassador to the UN and foreign policy advisor in the Federal Chancellery; Ursula Plassnik, former Foreign Minister of Austria and Ambassador in Bern; and Pascal Baeriswyl from Swiss foreign policy.
