Cheers to the Azores. Live multivision film and photo report by Corrado Filipponi. The Azores - a fantastic archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic, far away from any hustle and bustle. The travel photographer Corrado Filipponi visited all 9 Azores islands during three months and discovered a new paradise for himself. He is happy to share with the audience his impressive pictures and experiences of the extensive journey on the Portuguese outpost of Europe. The professional photo and film reportage lets you discover a whole new world! The audience immerses themselves for two hours.
In the middle of the Atlantic, halfway between Portugal and America, 9 beautiful islands are waiting to be discovered, which are still spared from mass tourism. The Azores! The resounding names of these islands are: São Miguel, Santa Maria, Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, Faial, Flores and Corvo. The Swiss photographer Corrado Filipponi was amazed on all 9 islands. Green fields with peacefully grazing cows, smaller and larger crystal-clear lakes bordering extinct volcanic cones, warm springs, large cave systems and fascinating cliffs. In the sea around the Azores, whales and dolphins cavort just off the coast, including at the foot of Picos, the highest mountain on Portuguese territory at 2351m.
The Azores, slightly smaller than Luxembourg in a total area, are so varied that you can discover something completely new on each of the enchanting islands. What the Azores offer by nature is among the very best.
You can move independently on foot and by car in the Azores, both on the small islands of Santa Maria, Graciosa or Corvo (which is just 17 km² in size), as well as on the larger islands. On the largest Azores island of São Miguel, Corrado Filipponi was invited to tea and pineapple plantations. He was also impressed by the many volcanoes and lakes of this island. On Terceira, the third largest island, you will find Angra do Heroísmo, the oldest city in the Azores. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a real gem.
Ferries connect the islands of the central group of São Jorge, Pico and Faial. On São Jorge, he was able to visit the well-known cheese dairies as well as the tuna factory and a small coffee plantation. On Pico, he enjoyed delicious wine tastings and whale watching, while on Faial, which is called "The Blue Island" because of the many hydrangeas, he met with the international sailors who stop in Horta on the Atlantic crossing. Flores, as the name suggests, is a paradise for botanists, but also for hikers, as are all the Azores islands.
The Winterthur travel photographer and storyteller presents this and much more in his current multivision photo reportage in his usual skilful lecture style. The audience is once again well entertained and amazed and is fascinated by what the Azores have to offer.
