Reading with Philipp Gurt

At dawn, a rowing boat floats on the mirror-smooth Lake St. Moritz. Inside is the body of Anastasia Maranta. Her father, Rudolfo Maranta, the uncrowned king of the Engadine jet set, promises a reward of one million francs for anyone who solves the death of his twenty-four-year-old daughter. On the part of the judiciary, the Alpine police officer Corina Costa is assigned to the case. The nature-loving civil servant, who is also a mountain farmer and lives above Pontresina with her marmot Fred and other animals, enters the world of material wealth and fake smiles, which is completely foreign to her. The deeper she penetrates into this sphere, the more dangerous it becomes. A chase in the middle of the Engadine mountains begins.

Philipp Gurt was born in Graubünden in 1968 as the seventh of eight children of a poor mountain farming family and grew up in various children's homes. Already as a teenager Gurt wrote short stories, followed by his first novel at the age of twenty. He has always had an intimate relationship with nature, which was also to shape his highly atmospheric writing. His attachment to the canton of Graubünden, where he still lives today as a freelance writer, is palpable in each of his novels.
