Brigitte Herrmann reads from her novel about the contradictory life of the painter Stephanie Hollenstein.

The Vorarlberg farm girl Stephanie Hollenstein is talented and courageous. At the age of 18, she went to Munich alone and trained as a drawing teacher at the School of Arts and Crafts. Soon she wanted more. She wanted to be a painter and she wanted to be free to decide how she lived and who she loved. During the First World War, she cut off her hair and went to the front in South Tyrol as Stephan Hollenstein with the Vorarlberg Standschützen. In the interwar period, she fought for better working conditions for women in the arts – and for her sisters to keep their parents' farm. A serious accident led to a creative crisis, but it was through him that she also met and fell in love with the aspiring doctor Franziska Gross. Together with her, everything seemed possible. But the world changed and Stephanie made decisions that still show her work in a different light today.

The novel "The Search for Your Own Color" shows the contradictions of a life – between success, love and responsibility, art and politics. He not only sheds light on Hollenstein's artistic successes, but also questions her moral compromises and decisions.
