Alp Mädems Bike

Description
The ascent in the lower part is mostly on asphalt and gravel roads. You can enjoy an impressive view of the Sarganserland, the Churfirsten and the Alvierkette. From Mädems Vorsäss, the landscape opens up and leads through an idyllic alpine world to Alp Mädems.
A short but impressive high-altitude trail (approx. 15 minutes) initiates the transition to the descent. This begins on open alpine meadows and becomes narrower and more technical as it progresses – but is almost continuously rideable for experienced bikers. The last stretch down to the Berghotel Schönhalden is rewarded with a spectacular view down into the valley. A break on the hotel's sun terrace is definitely worth it.
This is followed by the highlight of the tour: a descent of over 1,000 metres in altitude almost exclusively on single trails. It starts out technically demanding, but becomes increasingly fluid and provides real driving pleasure.
Note: If you prefer an easier option, you can switch to alpine and forest roads to Flums. From Flums, the route leads leisurely along the Seez back to Mels.
Hidden Gem
A short detour to the picturesque Chapfensee is definitely worthwhile. Even if you have to walk the last few meters to the lake.
Safety Note
The descent on the hiking trail from Mädems Hintersäss to Flums Portels is partly blocked, contains loose stones and can be complicated by cow kicks in wet conditions. From the Berghotel Schönhalden, there are several ways to leave the single trail and switch to the alpine and forest road.
Equipment
Normal bike equipment. Functional clothing is an advantage, as ascents and descents alternate.
