Description
The 2.5 km long trail leads from the village towards the Murg valley, through old chestnut forests, past the freshly planted Selve, along a young chestnut stand for the production of chestnut wood, back to the starting point. Along the way, it is worth taking a detour into the wild and romantic Murgbach gorge and the thundering waterfall. The path is adorned with various wooden sculptures. Along the way, information boards provide interesting facts about Switzerland's largest chestnut forest north of the Alps. Between around mid-September and mid-October, there is a chance of finding ripe chestnuts on the ground along the trail.
Hidden Gem
Families should definitely plan a stopover at the playground about halfway along the trail. There is also a fire pit here.
Safety Note
On the chestnut trail, visitors are allowed to collect any chestnuts that are already on the ground. However, it is not permitted to knock the fruit off the trees with sticks or stones, as this can injure the trees and cause them to die. Tip: The most fruit can be found in the early morning or when it is raining or the hairdryer is blowing. More fruit will then fall from the tree.
Equipment
The trail is not suitable for baby carriages throughout. The path is well developed (mostly natural paths) and is also suitable for smaller children.
