Description
The 2.5 km long path leads from the village towards the Murg valley, through old chestnut forests, past the newly planted forest plantation, along a young chestnut stand for chestnut wood production, back to the starting point. Along the path, a detour to the wild romantic Murgbach gorge and the roaring waterfall is worthwhile. The path is decorated with various wooden sculptures. Along the way, informative panels provide interesting facts about the largest chestnut forest north of the Alps in Switzerland. Between about mid-September and mid-October, there is a chance to find ripe sweet chestnuts on the ground along the path.
Hidden Gem
Families should definitely plan a stop at the playground about halfway through. There is also a fire pit here.
Safety Note
On the chestnut path, visitors may collect all chestnuts that are already on the ground. It is not permitted to knock the fruits down from the trees with sticks or stones, as this can injure the trees and cause them to die. Tip: The most fruits can be found early in the morning or when it rains or the Foehn wind blows. Then more fruits fall from the tree.
Equipment
The path is not entirely pram-friendly. The path is well developed (mostly natural paths) and also manageable for younger children.
