From the Hotel Kurhaus Sennis, the descent or the way back follows on unpaved roads (mostly) and hiking trails to the Palfries valley station.

Description

We start the hike at the Palfries mountain station. With the Palfriesbahn, we have previously overcome around 1,250 metres in altitude in just 12 minutes. The train travels over an impressive waterfall (Ragnatscher Bach) and takes us up to the Palfries plateau.

In contrast to the other descent options to the valley station, this variant is less strenuous, even if at first glance it does not look like it with the time required. From the mountain station we hike to the Palfries mountain inn, where we have two hiking options at our disposal. For the path over Alp Malun we take the path towards Alvier. In the Alp Castilu variant, we follow the path in the direction of the Stralrüfi mountain restaurant. Both paths lead to the Hotel Kurhaus Sennis. From there it continues on hiking trails, mainly on unpaved roads, back to the valley station.

Geheimtipp

Make a stopover at the mountain restaurant Stralrüfi or enjoy lunch or snack in the former Kurhaus Sennis.

Ausrüstung

Daytime hiking backpack (approx. 20 litres) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable footwear, weather-adapted and durable clothing in the multi-layer principle, if necessary telescopic poles, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone, possibly headlamp, map material

Directions

The hikes to the Kurhaus Sennis are described in the following hikes:

  • Sennis Round Trip, Via Malun
  • Sennis round trip, via Castilu

From the Kurhaus Sennis, the hiking trail leads us over a dirt road in the general direction of the valley through open and wooded terrain. Shortly after the 1000 meter long, flat stretch of road, the hiking trail sign (after the curve) directs us to the former, very steep access road. This rejoins the paved road, which we follow for about 600 meters. Again we leave the road and move along the original muleteer path. One last time we meet the paved road, which we follow for 300 meters. On the right side of the road, the hiking trail sign points us to the left, where the hike continues on a dirt road towards Valaschga. Once in the forest, we go downhill through an alley until we reach the paved road. Then it goes left through shady forest always slightly downhill. At the height of the Poli estate, the hiking trail branches off to the left and leads over the footbridge of the Hagerbach. So that we do not arrive on the state road, we must pay close attention to the signs on site (large square); in particular, the route over the dam is not to be chosen. As soon as we come out of the forest, we already see the Palfries cable car.
