Details
Description
The route starts from Bad Ragaz with an initial climb past Wartenstein Castle and the village of Pfäfers. The baroque monastery church and the spectacular Tamina bridge are worth a short stop, before the descent down to Landquart opens up the view of the Chur Rhine Valley. After crossing the Grisons Rhine Valley, the route continues through the Grisons region over the wine villages Malans and Jenins to the original Heidi village. The “Dörfli” from Johanna Spyri’s world-famous novel welcomes visitors to an emotional journey back to the Swiss mountain world of the 19th century. The path then leads over tarmac and gravel roads into the wine village of Fläsch, which was awarded the Wakker Prize in 2010. Through sun-soaked vineyards, it descends to the Rhine. On the Rhine embankment, we reach Giessenpark and our starting point, the Tamina Thermal Baths Bad Ragaz.
Hidden Gem
In memory of the writer Johanna Spyri, the Heidi Fountain was created in Maienfeld in 1953, inviting you to take a commemorative photo.
