Entertaining valley hike with entertainment for children and barbecue area at the end of the tour. T1
We start the excursion with a ride on the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn to Tschamut, the first village on the young Rhine. Here we start our hike, first down to Chamut, then on to the valley floor, past the golf course to Selva. It is worth making a small stop at the golf course restaurant.
The village of Selva has a special history. Again and again it was threatened by avalanches in winter and in 1949 all houses, except one, burned down completely. This event triggered an unprecedented relief campaign throughout Switzerland and the village was completely rebuilt.
We move to the other side of the Rhine. On a wide and comfortable hiking trail, through forest and over pastures, we reach the fontauna playground, below Rueras. Great play equipment makes children's hearts beat faster. A large meadow also allows games with the ball, the brave may dare a bath in one of the small souls or even in the stream. Meanwhile, we prepare everything needed for a barbecue lunch at one of the fireplaces.
Over a bridge it is not far to the camping restaurant, where there is fine clacé for dessert. On low-traffic side roads and after a short ascent to the height of the road, we return to the starting point Sedrun.
Ice cream can be purchased at the campsite
Fairtrail: Hikers share the trail with mountain bikers.
The path is not always suitable for prams.
Guests from the playground may use the toilets of the campsite.
Take something to grill with you
We travel by train from Sedrun to Chamut. On a paved traffic-free road we walk down to the village, and about 200 meters east along the pass road. At the chapel we see on the right side the hiking trail to Selva, which we follow. Below the golf restaurant we cross the Rhine and on a hiking trail we reach the playground after about 40 minutes. From the campsite a paved path leads to Rueras. we reach the main road, but we can turn right back onto a side road to Sedrun at the old schoolhouse.
