Forno Panorama Route - Circular hike

A varied route, whose first section leads from Maloja to Lake Cavloc. From there, it continues through the wide river valley of the Orlegna to Plan Canin. Here the path splits and we follow the signposts towards Murettopass. After about 300 meters of elevation in Val Muretto, the path branches off to the right across the stream and climbs over the Laghetti dei Rossi to the actual panoramic route. The path leads through scree slopes and over rock slabs, and on the steep west flank of Piz dei Rossi caution is advised in early summer due to old snowfields. The return from the Forno hut begins with a steep descent into the Forno Valley and then follows the valley floor with a slight downward slope to Plan Canin and back to Cavloc and Maloja.
Also in reverse (ascending to the Forno hut through the Forno Valley, return on the panoramic path) the route is highly recommended.

Overnight stay in the Capanna del Forno

At the uppermost bend of the Malojapass take the turnoff to Salecina up to the parking lot at Orden, where the footpath begins. It runs on a gravel road to the buildings of Salecina, crosses the Orlegna, and climbs on the other side of the river to Lagh da Cavloc (1907 m). The road ends at the alpine building, and from there the path continues comfortably through the wide river valley of the Orlegna. Shortly before the Plan Canin dam, the route splits.

Following the signpost to Murettopass, go down a few steps to the left to a wooden bridge over the Orlegna. The path follows the Muretto stream for some time until about 300 meters above Plan Canin, a trail mark indicates the entry to the panoramic path. Here, the stream is crossed to the right, and it climbs steeply and off the path over the scree-covered north flank of the Pizzi dei Rossi up to the small mountain lake Laghetto dei Rossi at 2364 m.

From here, the route leads around the northwest flank of the Pizzi dei Rossi, passes the deeply incised Valun dei Rossi at the only somewhat exposed part of the route (caution on snowfields!) and climbs up to about 2600 m. At this altitude, the path traverses gently ascending slopes beneath the Pizzi dei Rossi and Monte del Forno, offering a magnificent view. The descent to the Forno hut (2574 m) follows with an easy, non-exposed climb over a slab field.

From the Forno hut, a steep descent follows over the scree-covered lateral moraine to the valley floor (and no longer, as a few years ago, to the glacier). There, the path follows with a slight slope alongside the stream back to Plan Canin and then again to Cavloc and Maloja.
