Description

We start at the train station in Bonaduz and take a road with little traffic along the steep banks of the Hinterrhein towards Rhäzüns, which leads past the "Sogn Gieri" church. This medieval hall church from the 10th century is unique in the northern Alpine region due to its complete painting and is a Swiss cultural asset of national importance. The route continues leisurely along the Hinterrhein to Thusis.

In Thusis, we cross the Hinterrhein and ride mostly on side roads through the hillside villages of the Domleschg. From Fürstenau, we ride up to Almens, past Lake Canova above Paspels and to the highest point of our tour, the Dusch organic farm. We enjoy the view of the Heinzenberg opposite before descending via Tomils to Rothenbrunnen. Via the Polenweg below Feldis, we follow forest paths to Reichenau, where the Hinterrhein and Vorderrhein rivers meet. Finally, we return to Bonaduz on dirt tracks.

The castles and palaces of the Domleschg are summarized in a handy MiniGuide folding brochure. Available from Viamala Tourismus, Thusis.
