Directions

At the starting point, the sports hall Vicosoprano, follow the signpost Via Panoramica towards Soglio. At the beginning, the ascent is scenic, but the terrain is less spectacular, as the path leads along an agricultural road up to the summer farming settlement Durbegia. After Durbegia, follows the exciting section, over roots and stones, with small ascents and descents to Soglio. About halfway between Durbegia and Soglio you pass the fork Parlongh, where there is the possibility to take the short variant of the Gigathlon trail stage and descend via a steep trail to Montaccio and take the return route via Coltura back to Vicosoprano. The path is shortened by about half the total length this way. Those who want to complete the entire trail continue on the narrow path to Soglio. Once in Soglio, cross the village with its historic cobblestone streets, passing the beautiful small church San Lorenzo. Then continue about 50 m on the cantonal road and then on a beautiful forest path through chestnut woods downhill to Brentan. Continue to the border village Castasegna, passing the Villa Garbald. At just under 750 m above sea level, the southern climate with palm trees and higher temperatures becomes quickly noticeable here. After crossing Castasegna, a road underpass brings you to the north side of the valley. Via country road and trail, you quickly reach the mountain village Bondo. As in Soglio, the narrow alleys also characterize the village here. The idyllic village scene is somewhat marred by the current major construction site which is repairing the damage caused by the Cengalo landslide in 2017. From Bondo, you walk over a suspension bridge to Promontogno. In Promontogno, you pass crotti and the municipal office until you reach the village exit. From here, you return to field and small country roads via the hamlet Caccior and the district of Stampa called Coltura to the last section of the path between Borgonovo and Vicosoprano. In Vicosoprano, take a deep breath because the finish is reached.
