Description
The ski tour to Gorihorn starts from the Tschuggen parking lot following the summer path to Tschuggenberg. After this rather steep start, it becomes flatter heading northwest through the Tschuggentälli. The distinctive rock spikes (point 2,751) are then bypassed to the north through the hollow. Continue further east through the valley hollow to the saddle of the Gorihorn. Crampons are often helpful on the steep slope. At the saddle, a ski depot is recommended to cover the summit slope on foot.
After the varied ascent, you are rewarded with a wonderful panoramic view. The descent follows the ascent track back to Tschuggen.
Hidden Gem
After the route, the inn Tschuggen offers a place to refresh yourself.
Safety Note
Anyone going off-piste acts entirely at their own risk and is outside the liability of the mountain railways. The yellow-marked freeride slopes are secured but not groomed or controlled. They may only be used when open. We recommend checking the open slopes, the SLF avalanche bulletin, and the weather forecast. All liability is excluded.
This freeride route is to be understood as a general directional guide. Depending on conditions, descent routes must be assessed and adapted independently. No guarantee can be given for the accuracy, completeness, and currency of the information.
Freeriding in the open terrain is at your own risk. Every freerider and touring guest is strongly advised to prepare thoroughly, plan their route, and obtain up-to-date information on snow and avalanche conditions. Avalanche report and snow information: www.slf.ch
Any liability for accidents resulting from the use of the published information and route details is excluded.
In case of doubt, accompaniment by experienced mountain guides is strongly recommended: www.bergfuehrer-davosklosters.ch
Equipment
We recommend the avalanche training center before the descent.
At Jakobshorn near the Fuxägufer mountain station in Davos, you can practice the correct use of the avalanche transceiver (LVS) under realistic conditions. The training area consists of a 100 x 100 m zone on moderately steep terrain and thus represents a realistic avalanche cone. Use of the training area is free. You must bring your own LVS and avalanche probe.
