Description

Hidden in the bushes, shortly after the start of the long ascent to the Calanda Hut, is the entrance to the Grottenstein Trail. If you don't look closely, it's easy to miss it – especially in spring, when the first rays of sunshine make the bushes dense.

The technical challenge begins after just a few metres: root passages, larger stones and short counter-climbs require precise line selection and good riding technique. The trail starts relatively flat, but soon becomes more varied.

A worthwhile detour leads to the Grottenstein castle ruins, about 40 metres above the trail. The ruins of a cave castle are located directly at the foot of a rock face of the Calanda. Built under a striking rocky outcrop, an approximately 20-metre-long section of the front wall is still preserved today – an impressive place with historical flair.

After the turnoff, the trail becomes steeper and more challenging: hairpin bends require all the riding technique you have – this requires relocation. The trail remains technical throughout and is aimed at experienced bikers who are up for a real challenge.

Tip:
The Grottenstein Trail can be ideally combined with the Calanda Trail - for those who are looking for even more trail fun on the mountain.
