Details
Description
The path rises immediately from the end of the Upper Murgsee. On older maps, the old hiking trail that branches off to the east is still sometimes shown, but the new path leads south towards the Widersteiner-Furggel. About halfway up this ascent, the path branches left at a large stone with signposts towards Chamm/Erdisgulmen/Maschgenkamm. The ascent now leads up a partly pathless but well-marked route, always with views back to the Murgsees and the Murg valley. Slightly above 2200 m above sea level, the first crossing follows; a narrow path then leads for about 200 meters along a steep cliff. After a second crossing, the terrain opens up to the somewhat lower plateau of Chamm, with the larger and smaller Chamm lakes. The path now leads across this plateau; the view along this varied section reaches as far as the Säntis, which peeks out from behind the Churfirsten. Shortly after the fork at Abendweid, the most demanding part of today's stage begins: the steep and exposed ascent up to the Erdisgulmen at 2286 m above sea level and the subsequent short ridge walk. After this somewhat challenging section for people with a fear of heights, you are rewarded with new views: the view follows on the right side the ridge from Magerrain over Wissmeilen to the striking Spitzmeilen. From Hoch Camatsch, the path leads downhill to the Sächserseeli and then comfortably as a panorama trail to the Zigerfurgglen pass. At this point, where various hiking trails converge, the destination is almost reached, the Maschgenkamm mountain station of the Flumserberg cable cars with the large panorama restaurant. From here, the gondola comfortably takes you down to Flumserberg Tannenbodenalp (gondola operating until 5:00 p.m.).
During the Heidiland Hiking Route, you stay overnight this evening in one of the hotels at Flumserberg.
