Description

The Maloja Express route starts at the Maloja Pass, with a view back over the Engadin lake district, and then winds down the narrow hairpin bends of the mountain pass road into Bergell, the Val Bregaglia, the valley of the artist family Giacometti. The route passes all Bergell villages, partially through old chestnut forests, up to the national border at Castasegna. Flat sections alternate with steep and demanding ascents and descents. The downhill elevation gain, however, far outweighs the uphill, making the route a great pleasure! Along the way, there are many opportunities to visit the old villages with numerous historic sites, be they castle ruins, churches or Italian-style palazzi. Various restaurants in the valley offer delicious local specialties for bikers.
