This alpine pass route, especially suitable for the first warmer days, begins and ends with the tight hairpin bends of the Maloja Pass
Details
Description
From Maloja, it goes down approx. 300 m to the village of Casaccia. From Casaccia, it leads flat, partly with strong headwinds but with an even more beautiful view of the imposing Albigna dam, continuing to Vicosoprano. In Vicosoprano, the ride through the historic village is recommended before continuing to Stampa. At the outskirts of Stampa, the hometown of the famous artist family Giacometti, you pass on the right the red stone palace, the Palazzo Castelmur, and ride under two kissing stones to the next historic village, Promontogno. From Promontogno, it goes up just under 200 m in a few but mostly very sunny bends before reaching the destination Soglio – threshold of paradise. From Soglio, you return on the same road, this time with a total ascent of a bit more than 800 meters, to the starting point Maloja.
Hidden Gem
There are shopping opportunities in Vicosoprano, Promontogno and Soglio; a stop in Soglio is worth it for a lunch or coffee and cake on one of the three sun terraces.
Safety Note
During the high summer season, due to heavy traffic and the narrow bends between Casaccia and Maloja, driving is only recommended early in the morning and in the evenings.
